What did Abigail Adams do to help Woman’s Rights, and what else do you know about her?

In 1776, when Abigail’s husband John joined the other Founding Fathers in Philadelphia to draw up plans fo the new democracy, Abigail sent him a letter in which she asked him to “Remember the ladies and be more generous and favourable to them than your ancestors.” Otherwise, she said, American women “are determined to foment a rebellion, and will not hold ourselves bound by any laws in which we have no voice or representation.” John however did not take her letter seriously.
When John Adams became President, in 1796, Abigail Adams tried to adopt a lower profile but as she said,it wasn’t in her nature to “impose a silence upon myself when I long to talk”. She became the first president’s wife to be known as “Mrs President” by her enemies, while it was said that John “didn’t dare make a nomination without Abigail’s approbation”.
“It is not right” said a Pennsylvania senator who overheard Abigail telling John which congressmen she considered “our people” and which she did not. And in 1799 when the president overrode the advice of his wife (and most of his aides as well) to send peace emisssary William Murray rather than a proclamation of war to France, he himself tacitly acknowledged her influence. “O how members of Congress lament Mrs A’s absence” he wrote to Abigail who had been in Boston at the time of his unpopular decision “if she had been there, Murray would never have been named.”
Abigail considered herself to be an equal partner in her husband’s success. “No man ever prospered in the world without the consent and cooperation of his wife.” she observed pointedly.
